Nikos Salamanos is a Postdoctoral Researcher at NERDS (Network and Data Science research group) within the Data Science Section at the University of Copenhagen. He joined the group in November 2025 to work on an interdisciplinary Villum Synergy project developing network analysis methods for archaeological data, with specific focus on handling highly biased and incomplete datasets from Roman Empire remnants.
His research spans critical areas at the intersection of computational and social sciences:
- Network methodology development for incomplete datasets
- Social media information flow analysis
- Archaeological data reconstruction techniques
- Cross-disciplinary applications of network science
- Biased data handling in historical contexts
Nikos works under Professor Michele Coscia's supervision while collaborating closely with Tom Brughmans' archaeology team at Aarhus University. His Villum Synergy project represents a significant interdisciplinary effort to adapt computational social science methods for archaeological challenges, particularly in reconstructing historical information networks from fragmented evidence.
The NERDS group, where Salamanos is based, actively researches network applications to social systems and maintains strong publication output as evidenced by their blog documenting recent grants and publications. His work exemplifies the growing trend of computational methods transforming traditional humanities research through innovative data science approaches.
