PD Dr. Nikolas Immer has been a research associate in the Department of Modern German Literature and Literary Theory at the University of Leipzig's Institute of German Studies since October 2024. He previously held visiting professorships at Kiel University and Braunschweig University of Technology, and served as junior research group leader in the DFG-funded research group "Poetry in Transition" at the University of Trier from 2020-2022.
Immer earned his doctorate in 2008 from Friedrich Schiller University Jena with a thesis on Schiller's dramatic anthropology, followed by a habilitation at the University of Trier in 2018 focusing on memory in 19th-century German poetry. His academic trajectory includes positions as scientific staff member at both the University of Trier (2009-2018) and Friedrich Schiller University Jena (2004-2009).
His research examines German literature from the Enlightenment to contemporary periods, with specializations in:
- Goethe-era literary anthropology
- Mnemonic structures in poetry
- Cross-cultural exchanges between German and French traditions
- Formal evolution of travel and post-war lyricism
As an educator, Immer supervises bachelor's and master's theses in Modern German Literature, requiring students to develop original research proposals aligned with his departmental focus.
