Nikola Von Merveldt is an Associate Professor at the Université de Montréal, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. She holds positions in the Department of Literatures and Languages of the World and the Centre d'études médiévales. Her research focuses on children's literature, history of the book, 18th-century German literature, and intermediality, examining how literary works interact with their historical and material contexts.
She has supervised numerous graduate students, including Walid Semmache (2024), Nicolas Groulx (2024), and Marie-Claude Chamberland (2023), among others. Her work bridges literary analysis with interdisciplinary approaches, exploring themes like cultural identity, multilingualism, and socio-political discourse through historical and comparative lenses.
Notable grants include a 2015–2018 project on intermedial practices in Europe (FRQSC-funded) and a 2013–2015 study on natural history in children's literature (CRSH-funded). She is a member of the Canadian Centre for German and European Studies (CCÉAE).
