Deborah Barton is an Associate Professor at the Department of History, University of Montreal, Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on gendered dimensions of journalism, propaganda, and violence in Nazi Germany, post-war reconstruction, and transnational European history. She is affiliated with the Centre canadien d'études allemandes et européennes (CCÉAE) and the Centre d'études et de recherches internationales (CÉRIUM).

Her research examines women journalists' roles in Nazi propaganda, coerced labor during WWII, and the transnational politics of post-war memory. She leads the project Frontlines to Headlines: The Politics of Memory, War and the Press in interwar Germany, funded by the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).
The 2015-2022 publications highlight her expertise in gender and media during WWII, Eastern Front labor dynamics, post-war German press, and Holocaust historiography. Keywords include: Nazi Germany, Gender Studies, Journalism, European History, and War Studies.
