Dr. Niki Gaitani is an Associate Professor in Integrated Energy Design at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), specializing in energy-efficient and climate-resilient urban development. She leads the syn.ikia H2020 project on Sustainable Plus Energy Neighbourhoods and co-leads the Green Deal-funded ARV project on Climate Positive Circular Communities. Her work focuses on zero-emission concepts, building physics, and urban microclimate strategies across diverse climate zones.
Research interests include integrated energy design frameworks, PEDs (Positive Energy Districts), and policy integration for climate-positive communities. She has contributed to over 70 publications, including peer-reviewed articles in journals like Building and Environment and Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews. Her projects involve collaboration with EU initiatives and international stakeholders to mainstream sustainable urban solutions.
Niki teaches in NTNU's International MSc Program in Sustainable Architecture and advises on EU-funded projects like the IEA EBC Annex 83. She serves on the National Reference Group for Climate, Energy, and Mobility in Horizon Europe. Her recent work emphasizes cross-sectoral strategies for urban regeneration and community engagement in decarbonization efforts.
