Nihat Baysal is a Professor of Practice in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), where he has been since January 2015. He previously served as an Assistant Professor at Yeditepe University (Istanbul, Turkey) and held roles as Associate Dean of the School of Engineering and Architecture. He has also worked as a researcher and adjunct professor at RPI before his current position. His research focuses on molecular dynamics simulations, artificial pancreas technology, and data analysis, including geospatial systems and programming frameworks.
Dr. Baysal’s expertise includes large-scale data processing, web-based dissemination protocols, and collaboration on medical engineering projects such as detecting CGM signal issues in artificial pancreas systems. He holds a Ph.D. from Bogazici University (Istanbul, Turkey) and completed postdoctoral studies at Florida State University’s Supercomputer Computations Research Institute and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Institute.
His work spans interdisciplinary areas, from biological networks to educational outcomes analysis. Collaborations include projects with Prof. B. Wayne Bequette. While no specific awards are listed, his contributions to computational engineering and medical technology are highlighted.
