Professor Nigel Culkin is a leading academic in entrepreneurship and enterprise development at the University of Hertfordshire, holding the title of Professor of Enterprise & Entrepreneurial Development. He leads the Enterprise and Business Development Centre and contributes to the Centre for Agriculture, Food and Environmental Management. His work focuses on entrepreneurial learning, decision-making processes, and enterprise policy with a focus on digital industries. Culkin has attracted over €26M in funding to advance the University’s enterprise strategy, contributing to its significant rise in research impact rankings (32nd nationally in the UK by 2022). He has held leadership roles, including President of the Institute of Small Business & Entrepreneurship (2014–2016) and membership in the ESRC’s Peer Review College. His research spans entrepreneurship education, SME growth, climate change mitigation in agriculture, and post-Brexit economic frameworks. Culkin has collaborated internationally, including projects in Vietnam, Serbia, and the West Balkans, addressing challenges such as SME development and university-enterprise partnerships.
