Niels Reeh is Associate Professor in Religious Studies at the University of Southern Denmark's Department of Culture and Language. His research examines religious sociology, secularization, and conceptual history through historical and digital humanities approaches.
Education:
- PhD in Sociology of Religion, University of Copenhagen
- MA in Sociology of Religion, University of Copenhagen
- BA in Sociology of Religion, History and Anthropology
His work challenges traditional secularization theories by analyzing state regulation of religion, particularly through education systems. Current research applies digital humanities methods to conceptual history, examining how notions of 'religion' evolved from the Fall of Constantinople to the Peace of Westphalia.
Publication trends show increasing focus on Danish religious pluralism, inter-religious relations, and methodological innovations in digital historical analysis.
He serves on the Church Ministry's Commission for Recognition of Faith-Communities and founded several research networks including a Digital Humanities working group at SDU and a Health, Culture and Religion network at University of Copenhagen.
