Henrik Reeh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Arts and Cultural Studies at the University of Copenhagen, specializing in humanistic urban studies and modern culture. His research explores the intersection of urban environments, aesthetics, and cultural theory through interdisciplinary approaches. He coordinates the joint master's program '4cities - UNICA Euromaster in Urban Studies' and teaches courses on Cultural Theory and Urban Culture.
Education includes:
- Cand.mag. in History and Social Sciences
- Maître ès Lettres Modernes (Modern Literature, Université Paris VII)
- Diplômé d'Etudes Approfondies in Literary Studies (Université Paris VII)
- Ph.D. in Comparative Literature
Reeh's research examines spatial culture through sensory architecture, urban spaces, aesthetic textualities, and collective memory. His framework connects cultural phenomena to metropolitan environments across cities like Copenhagen, New York, and Berlin. Key works establish spatial culture as a distinct humanities field through multidisciplinary analysis of urbanity and aesthetics.
Recent publications (2020-2025) demonstrate consistent focus on urban aesthetics through philosophical, literary, and sociological lenses. Works engage with theorists like Walter Benjamin, Georg Simmel, and Georges Perec while analyzing specific urban sites in Paris, Venice, Rome, and Marseille. Themes include sensory perception of cities, site-specific ambiguity, memory in domestic spaces, and the urban sublime.
Awards and honors:
- Officier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques (2005)
Reeh supervises graduate theses in urban studies and modern culture. Previously served as Visiting Professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and Research Associate at the Center for Urbanity & Aesthetics.
