Nidia Flis is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Modern Languages and Classics at Ball State University's College of Sciences and Humanities. Born in Honduras, she specializes in Spanish instruction and second language acquisition, with extensive experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) since 1999.
- Education: Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Ball State University
- Bachelor’s degree in Teaching English and Certificate in Higher Education Instruction from Universidad Pedagógica Nacional “Francisco Morazán”
Her research focuses on:
- Second language acquisition strategies
- Project-based learning methodologies
- Creation of language teaching materials
- Spanish for health professions applications
Her publications highlight trends in blended learning environments and barriers to English acquisition for Hispanic adults. She has collaborated on international teacher training projects in China, India, and Iraq.
Scientific Awards:
- Fulbright LASPAU scholarship recipient (2007)
She serves as an English and Spanish translator/interpreter in Muncie, Indiana, and mentors graduate students while teaching undergraduate Spanish courses at all levels.
