Nidhiya Menon is a Professor of Economics at Brandeis University, leading the Department of Economics. She holds affiliations with the Heller School for Social Policy and Management, the Interdepartmental Program in South Asian Studies, and other interdisciplinary initiatives. Her research focuses on development economics, gender disparities, environmental influences, and labor markets in developing countries.
Education includes a Ph.D. and M.A. from Brown University, and a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College. Her work spans empirical and theoretical studies across Asia, South America, and Africa, addressing topics like climate change impacts, health equity, and policy design.
Key research interests include the interplay of climate change and human capital, gender-differentiated policy effects, and the socioeconomic consequences of environmental shocks. Her recent studies analyze climate resilience projects, pensions' mental health implications, and women’s labor market dynamics.
Awarded grants from institutions like the World Bank and Asian Development Bank, she also received the Bernstein Fellowship for Teaching Excellence. Her articles explore topics such as polio vaccines’ disability impacts and coal plant pollution effects on anemia.
