Laurence Simon is a Professor of International Development and Director of the Center for Global Development and Sustainability at Brandeis University's Heller School for Social Policy and Management. He previously served as Founding Director of the Graduate Programs in Sustainable International Development (1993–2014) and Associate Dean for Academic Planning (2003–2009). He is Editor-in-Chief of CASTE: A Global Journal on Social Exclusion, an open-access journal under Brandeis Library.

His research focuses on social exclusion, poverty reduction, and the role of social movements in development. Recent work emphasizes psychological and cultural barriers to inclusion and critical caste studies. In 2025, he became the first foreign recipient of the Eashwari Bai Memorial Award for social justice advocacy, and Woxsen University established the 'Laurence Simon Department of Economics' in his honor.
His professional affiliations include the Interdepartmental Program in South Asian Studies at Brandeis. Key contributions include interdisciplinary frameworks for global development and leadership in caste studies scholarship.
