Nicolás Varchausky is an Associate Professor and researcher at the National University of Quilmes (Argentina), where he directs the P.A.I.S. research project. He also teaches at Universidad Nacional Tres de Febrero. Holding a PhD in Digital Arts and Experimental Media (DXARTS) from the University of Washington (Seattle, USA), his work bridges music composition, sound art, and interdisciplinary research. His research examines musical relations between space, sound, speech, memory, and technological environments.
Key projects include Archivo P.A.I.S., a dynamic sound archive analyzing spoken voice and public space recordings, framed as a fictional institution enduring over 35 years. His artistic output spans electronic/instrumental compositions, site-specific installations, and interactive performances commissioned by institutions like the Eurokaz Festival (Croatia), Seattle Art Museum, and the JACK Quartet (New York).
Recipient of the 2018 IBERMUSICAS Grant for residency work in Mexico, Varchausky’s work explores tensions between acoustic and semantic qualities of sound. His practice includes theater and film composition, with releases via BAU Records and international exhibitions.
