Nicolo' Guarena is a Fixed-term Assistant Professor in the Department of Structural, Geotechnical and Building Engineering (DISEG) at Politecnico di Torino, Italy. His work bridges geotechnical and environmental engineering with a focus on sustainable waste containment and soil protection technologies.
His research interests include clay liners, contaminated soil, geosynthetics, semipermeable membrane behavior, and waste disposal facilities. He investigates coupled physical and chemical processes in barrier systems, particularly in landfills, with emphasis on contaminant transport mechanisms and long-term performance of engineered barriers.
The recent publications highlight a consistent focus on landfill liner systems, bentonite behavior under aggressive conditions, and contaminant transport modeling. The work combines theoretical, experimental, and pore-scale analysis to improve the design and reliability of waste containment infrastructure.
Nicolo' Guarena contributes to education across multiple levels, serving as a course collaborator in Geotechnics, Foundations, and Environmental Geotechnics for Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD programs in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
He is affiliated with scientific sectors CEAR-05/A (Geotechnics) and contributes to ERC domains PE8_3 and PE10_17, aligning his research with UN Sustainable Development Goals 6 (Clean Water), 11 (Sustainable Cities), and 15 (Life on Land).
His collaborations are primarily with Andrea Dominijanni and Mario Manassero, indicating a strong research group in geoenvironmental engineering at PoliTO. No scientific awards or student advisement information is publicly listed.
