Professor Nicolette Sheridan serves as Head of the School of Nursing and Director of the Centre for Nursing and Health Research at Massey University, New Zealand. A registered nurse with tribal affiliations to Ngāpuhi, she holds a PhD and Master in Public Health from the University of Auckland alongside occupational health qualifications.
Her educational credentials include:

Professor Sheridan's research centers on health-care consumer experiences of long-term conditions and systemic disparities in primary health care services between indigenous/non-indigenous and Pacific/non-Pacific citizens. Her work critically monitors government commitments to indigenous rights and health equity through investigations into primary care models for older adults, paediatric acute care settings, and diabetes management strategies.
She has secured approximately NZD$11,000,000 across 28 research projects (2006-2017), with five major studies in progress during the reporting period:
- 'Implementing models of primary health care for older adults with complex needs' (HRC NZ/CAD$2.5M CIHR)
- 'Knowledge Translation in Australasian paediatric acute care settings' (NHMRC Australia AUD$600K)
- 'The STEP trial' (Ministry of Social Development NZD$750K)
- 'Measuring and optimising diabetes control strategies' (Counties Manukau Health NZD$184K)
As a Doctoral Supervisor, she mentors graduate researchers in nursing science while leading international collaborations across New Zealand, Canada, and Australia to advance health equity frameworks.
