Nicole Provenza is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery and McNair Scholar at Baylor College of Medicine, with an adjunct appointment as Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University. She leads the Provenza Lab, focusing on neuromodulation strategies for psychiatric disorders through neurophysiological and behavioral research. Her work integrates deep phenotyping with neural activity analysis to develop personalized therapies.
Education: Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Brown University (2021), postdoctoral training in Neurosurgery at Baylor College of Medicine (2024). Awards include the McNair Scholar Award and BRAIN Initiative recognitions. Her lab employs multimodal monitoring in patients with DBS devices and inpatient populations to study real-world behavior and neural circuit dynamics.
Research emphasizes ethologically valid brain-behavior relationships, leveraging wearable sensors and machine learning. Current goals include advancing stimulation paradigms for OCD, depression, and Parkinson’s Disease. Collaborations span neurosurgery, engineering, and psychiatry disciplines.
