Nicole Nolette is an Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo and the Canada Research Chair in Minority Studies (Tier 2). Since joining Waterloo in 2016, she has led major SSHRC-funded projects examining theatre translation between French and English in Toronto and the circulation of minority arts in Canada.

Research Focus
Nolette’s interdisciplinary scholarship centres on French-Canadian and Québec literatures, contemporary theatre, and translation studies. She investigates multilingual Canadian theatre, the history of translation, the mobility of minority arts, and the use of communication technologies by francophone theatre artists. Her theoretical lens draws on new materialisms, affect theory, and questions of agency within minority cultural production.

Labs & Teams
As leader of the Canada Research Chair in Minority Studies, she directs an active research program that integrates graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and community partners in the study of minority artistic practices and their translation across Canada.
