Nicole Breslend is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychological Science at the University of Vermont (UVM). She holds a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D., all from UVM. Her research focuses on child welfare program evaluation and parenting strategies, particularly for caregivers of strong-willed youth. Previously, her work examined peer victimization, aggression, and biobehavioral processes in children. She currently emphasizes developing accessible parenting resources and evaluating mental health agencies.
Dr. Breslend teaches a range of courses, including introductory psychology, statistical methods for psychological science, developmental psychology, and advanced graduate seminars on topics like psychopathology and clinical history. She does not currently maintain an active research lab.
Her research interests integrate multilevel analyses of family dynamics, peer relationships, and physiological responses to stress. Recent work explores telehealth applications for behavioral parent training and interprofessional collaboration in healthcare to mitigate secondary traumatic stress.
Dr. Breslend's publications span child mental health interventions, trauma-informed care, and socioeconomic factors influencing child outcomes. She has contributed to developing smartphone applications for foster parents and evaluating technology-enhanced parenting programs. Grants and advising activities have centered on behavioral interventions for at-risk youth.
She is affiliated with UVM's College of Arts and Sciences and coordinates initiatives bridging academic research with practical child welfare solutions. Her office is located in Dewey Hall, Burlington, Vermont.
