Nicolas Villain is a Lecturer in Neurology at Sorbonne University and a hospital practitioner (MCU-PH) at the Institute of Memory and Alzheimer's Disease (IM2A). He leads the AXA Research Fund-supported project on Alzheimer's disease biomarkers at the Paris Brain Institute, collaborating with Prof. Kaj Blennow, a global leader in biomarker research. His work focuses on developing fluid biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis of Alzheimer's, combining clinical and mechanistic studies.
Education background: Trained through the Inserm-Liliane Bettencourt School specializing in Alzheimer's neuroimaging biomarkers. Completed neurology training at Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital and spectrometry training at CEA Saclay's mass spectrometry lab.
Research interests prioritize identifying biomarkers predicting disease progression in asymptomatic individuals and understanding their links to biological mechanisms. The project innovates by leveraging plasma-based biomarkers and mouse models to advance personalized medicine.
Funded by AXA Research Fund, the initiative aims to keep France competitive in Alzheimer's research while addressing the global public health crisis. Collaborations with industry partners and Kaj Blennow's expertise are pivotal to advancing therapies and prevention strategies.
