Nicolas Schillinger is a cultural historian specializing in the history of science and masculinity in 19th and 20th century China. He held a visiting professorship at the Free University of Berlin and was a former member (10/2021–10/2022) at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg's Sinology department, affiliated with the research group Sin-aps.

Research focuses on military reforms, masculinity concepts in late Qing/early Republican China, and Cold War-era scientific developments.
