Diao Shan is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chinese Studies within the College of Humanities at the University of Göttingen. They also serve as a Study Advisor for the BA Modern Sinology program.

Research focuses on the transformation of time and space concepts during China's late Qing Dynasty and Republican era, particularly through the lens of scientification processes. Their MA thesis analyzed calendar reform debates (1873-1912) using discourse analysis, while their PhD project examines the reception of science in early 20th-century China and the Weimar Republic, centered on the "Science and Life" controversy. This work bridges modern Chinese history, science studies, and comparative intellectual history.
Professional experience includes designing workshops on Chinese-Western cultural relations, with responsibilities in intercultural competence training. Office hours are available by appointment in Room KWZ 0.729 (extension 39-29206).
