Prof Nicolas Lemay-Hebert is a Professor in the Department of International Relations at Australian National University (ANU). Prior to ANU, he served as an invited professor at the University of Quebec at Montreal and a senior lecturer at the University of Birmingham. He earned his PhD in International Relations from Sciences Po Paris in 2010.
His research focuses on state-building, international interventions in Asia/Pacific, and the political economy of interventions. He examines local resistance to external interventions and their socio-economic impacts. Key research themes include peacebuilding, transitional justice, and the role of narratives in conflict resolution.
Prof Lemay-Hebert leads two major research projects: 'The Cartography of Peace: Security Zones, Colour Codes and Everyday Life' (2022–2027) exploring spatial dimensions of peace, and 'Emotional Peacebuilding and Transitions' (2020–2021) analyzing emotional dynamics in conflict resolution. He is actively involved in supervising research students and contributes to peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes.
His recent publications address peace processes in Australia, emotions in conflict resolution, normalization in international politics, and socio-economic reparations for cholera victims in Haiti. These works highlight interdisciplinary approaches to global governance challenges.
