Katrin Travouillon is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Political and Social Change at the Australian National University (ANU). She specializes in Cambodia’s political transformation, focusing on discursive and affective dimensions of political change. Her work examines how political actors engage with international norms and local realities in post-conflict contexts.
Travouillon holds a PhD in Political Science from Philipps University, Marburg, and previously conducted research at institutions including the University of California, Irvine. Her research combines archival studies with fieldwork, analyzing UN peacekeeping archives and their ethical implications on political transitions.
Her research interests include the rhetoric of the 'international community' in Cambodia, emotions in peacebuilding, and the legacy of the 1991 Paris Peace Agreements. She has contributed to projects on migrant labor exploitation in Germany and served as an election observer in Cambodia's 2008 parliamentary elections.
Travouillon co-leads the Emotional Peacebuilding and Transitions project (2020–2021) and leads research on Cambodia’s political discourse and land conflicts. She is an editorial board member of the Journal of Intervention and Statebuilding.
