Nicolas Helm-Grovas is a Lecturer in Film Studies at King's College London, based in the Department of Film Studies within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. He holds a PhD from Royal Holloway, University of London (2018), focusing on Laura Mulvey and Peter Wollen’s works. His career includes teaching at King’s and other London institutions, alongside fellowships from the Paul Mellon Centre and UCL Institute of Advanced Studies. He returned to King’s in 2023-24 after a period of curatorial work and interdisciplinary teaching.

Research Interests: Helm-Grovas explores radical cinema, film theory, avant-garde film, and contemporary art. His work interrogates the interplay between theoretical discourse and artistic practice, employing Marxist, psychoanalytic, and semiotic frameworks. Key areas include post-1968 film theory, feminist critiques, and the history of experimental film journals like Afterimage.
Publications & Curatorial Work: He co-curated exhibitions such as Art at the Frontier of Film Theory (2019) and Intersections in Theory, Film and Art (2022). His writings appear in Radical Philosophy, Oxford Art Journal, and Moving Image Review & Art Journal.
