Nicolae Barsan is a researcher at the University of Tübingen, where he heads the Sensor and Microsystem group at the Institute of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry. With over 15 years of experience in sensing technologies gained through European research projects, he leads a multidisciplinary team of more than 15 collaborators in advancing chemical sensor development.
His research focuses on applied sensor science, specializing in chemical sensors and sensor systems with electrical interface analysis. Key areas include Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) applications for domestic environments, material science innovations, and sensor optimization. The group operates as a self-sustaining university laboratory equipped with advanced electrical and interface analysis tools, emphasizing practical implementations of sensing technologies.
The Sensor and Microsystem group has initiated numerous national and European research and development projects, fostering international collaborations in sensor technology and AAL systems. Their work bridges theoretical chemistry with real-world applications, particularly in demographic solutions through sensor-driven ambient assistance.
