معرفی
Guido Matrella is a confirmed researcher in the Department of Information Engineering at the University of Parma, Italy. He holds a PhD in Information Technology from the same university and teaches courses such as Electronics for Embedded Systems and IoT, Electronics for Automation, and Fundamentals and Laboratory of Digital Electronics at both undergraduate and graduate levels in Electronic, Mechanical, and Computer Engineering programs.
His research focuses on Assistive Technologies (ATs) for elderly and disabled individuals, with a major contribution being the development of CARDEA, an open, standardized home automation system based on Ethernet, TCP/IP, and XML protocols. This system enables remote monitoring and control of domestic environments and has been deployed in several real-world applications including the projects A Nostra Cà, PERSONA, and Casa Scarzara in collaboration with AISM. His work also includes FPGA-based embedded systems, intelligent video sensors, and integration of wearable physiological sensors into smart homes.
The recent publications highlight a strong trend in applying machine learning and sensing technologies to healthcare, particularly in sleep posture classification and non-invasive cardiac monitoring using accelerometric signals. These works demonstrate a consistent focus on developing accurate, accessible, and contactless health monitoring systems suitable for home-based care.
- Founding member of the interdepartmental Center TAU (Assistive Technology University) at the University of Parma
- Technical expert at CAAD (Domestic Ambient Adaptation Center), Municipality of Parma
- Organizer of ForItAAL2012, the 3rd Forum of the Ambient Assisted Living Italian Association
- Editor of AAL in Italia: primo libro bianco
- Transnational coordinator of the ICT working group in the European ELCANET project
Guido Matrella actively contributes to interdisciplinary research and development in assistive technologies, collaborating with academic, municipal, and healthcare partners. His work bridges engineering innovation with practical social impact, particularly in aging and disability support. He has not received any explicitly mentioned scientific awards, but his leadership in national and European projects underscores his professional recognition.
