Nicola Mayrhofer is a Scientific Assistant at ETH Zurich's Evolutionary Biology group and part-time Teaching Assistant in Aquatic Ecology at Eawag. She holds an MSc in Environmental Sciences from ETH Zurich.
Her research examines predator-prey relationships in microbial systems, using experimental evolution approaches with bacteria and nematodes. Current work focuses on developing quantitative PCR methods for studying sticky bacteria like Myxococcus xanthus in multi-species communities.
Her sole publication analyzes behavioral interactions between bacterivorous nematodes and predatory bacteria, investigating how these dynamics shape microbial evolution in controlled environments.
Teaching responsibilities include supporting aquatic ecology courses at Eawag, complementing her experimental work on microbial ecosystems.
