Professor Nicola Martin is Professor of Social Justice and Inclusive Education at London South Bank University (LSBU), where she leads the research phase of the Education Doctorate program and currently supervises eight doctoral students with sixteen prior completions. She serves as Research Impact Lead for Law and Social Sciences and previously co-led the interdisciplinary LSBU Research Centre for Social Justice and Global Responsibility (2021-23). She currently directs the Building Future Communities Research Centre, which houses the Critical Autism and Disability Studies Research Forum with international reach.

Research Focus
Martin's research centers on inclusive education across multiple settings including prisons, schools, community groups, and higher education. Her work employs a participatory 'nothing about us without us' approach, focusing on social inclusion and disability justice. Current projects examine autism across the lifespan, particularly access to healthcare, employment, and social care services. She is developing three edited books on Universal Design for Learning in Higher Education, disabled student support, and lifespan autism perspectives.
Research Impact
Analysis of Martin's recent publications reveals strong focus on: 1) Neurodiversity and disability justice in institutional contexts, 2) Implementation of Universal Design frameworks in education, 3) Participatory research methodologies and 4) Healthcare accessibility for autistic individuals. She delivers DfE-approved CPD on autism and inclusive education.
