Nicola Andrews is a Research Fellow in the School of Health Sciences at the University of Southampton and an NIHR Applied Research Collaboration Wessex Knowledge Mobilisation Fellow. She holds dual roles: 40% as a Knowledge Mobilisation Fellow focusing on care homes and home care settings, and 60% as a Research Fellow in the Ageing & Dementia theme, contributing to the CAtCH-NET study exploring community alternatives to acute hospital admissions for frail older adults.
Her research interests center on care homes and extra-care housing, knowledge mobilisation, frailty and dementia care, and end-of-life care. Her work combines mixed-methods approaches, including ethnography and creative methodologies, to address gaps in healthcare delivery. Notable projects include an ethnographic study on advance care planning in nursing homes (her PhD focus) and collaborations with care providers to enhance research capacity.
Publications span topics like deprescribing in dementia, multi-professional teamwork in palliative care, and digital healthcare innovations for frail populations. Her contributions aim to translate research into practical improvements for older adults’ care. She holds a PhD from the University of Southampton (2021) and has extensive clinical experience in NHS and hospice settings.
