Nico Stringa is a Senior Researcher in the Department of Humanities at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, specializing in the History of Contemporary Art (SSD L-ART/03). With a background in Philosophy from the University of Milan, his work focuses on 19th- and 20th-century Italian art, particularly sculpture, painting, and ceramics.
Research Interests
Stringa has dedicated decades to studying Arturo Martini and Giuseppe Santomaso, producing comprehensive catalogues raisonnés. His expertise spans the Venice Biennale, Magic Realism, and 19th-century Venetian painting. He has curated exhibitions such as Venice '800: The Triumph of Color and Creatures, the Dream of Terracotta, and contributed to foundational works like History of Painting in the Veneto and the Dictionary of 20th-Century Venetian Artists.
Publications & Collaborations
His bibliography includes monographs on Antonio Canova, Guglielmo Ciardi, and Napoleone Martinuzzi. He collaborated with Professor Giuseppe Pavanello on Venetian art exhibitions and with Giuliana Altea on Salvatore Fancello's ceramic sculptures. Recent projects include the two-volume History of the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice and the Catalogue Raisonné of Giuseppe Santomaso's Paintings.
