Nicky Spence is a Visiting Professor of Vocal Studies at the Royal College of Music. Recognized for his integrity as a singing actor and honesty in musicianship, he was awarded an OBE in the 2023 King's Birthday Honours. His career includes prominent roles such as Laca in Jenufa at the Royal Opera, Siegmund in The Valkyrie at the English National Opera, and Tichon in Káta Kabanová at Glyndebourne Festival.
Spence is an acclaimed recording artist, winning the BBC Music Magazine Vocal Award and Gramophone's Solo Vocal Award in 2020 for his performance in Janácek's The Diary of One Who Disappeared. He was named BBC Music Magazine Personality of the Year in 2022. He serves as a Help Musicians Ambassador and will become President of the Independent Society of Musicians in the 2024/25 season.
