Nicky Lloyd is a Senior Lecturer in English Literature and Digital Humanities at Bath Spa University, affiliated with the School of Writing, Publishing and the Humanities. Their research focuses on Romantic-period literature, particularly Irish national tales, Enlightenment influences on fiction, and digital humanities methodologies. They hold a PhD from Cardiff University and are a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2016.
Educational background: PhD, MA, and BA in English Literature from Cardiff University. Professional membership in the British Association for Romantic Studies.
Research interests include the interplay between Romanticism and Enlightenment, digital image archives, book illustration, and Gothic literature. Current projects involve a monograph on Enlightenment moral philosophy’s influence on Romantic-era novels and a scholarly edition of Mary Julia Young’s Donalda; or, The Witches of Glenshiel.
Teaching focuses on Romantic-period fiction, Gothic origins, digital culture in literature, and material cultures. They coordinate modules like Nature, Science and Self and Literature and Digital Culture.
Publications include contributions to The Palgrave Guide to Gothic Publishing, Romantic Textualities, and European Romantic Review. They co-developed the 'Lost Visions' digital platform for 19th-century book illustrations.
Key achievements: Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, extensive conference presentations on topics like Sino-Irish sympathy in literature and Gothic innovations in Irish fiction.
