Prof Nick Sparks is a Professor in Agriculture & Business Management at the University of Edinburgh, affiliated with the Biorefining And Advanced Materials Research Centre. His research focuses on zoonotic pathogen control in poultry systems, biosecurity measures, and host-pathogen interactions. He holds a PhD from the University of Bath (1985) and a Bachelor's from the University of Nottingham (1980).
Teaching: Delivers the Poultry Embryology and Incubation course for the University of Edinburgh's PG Poultry Science program.
External Roles: Chair of the British Poultry Science Council (2015–2022).
Research Projects: Includes leadership in projects like Remote Rural Hydrogen Production (2023–2024) and participation in initiatives such as MEASURE (antibiotics stewardship in poultry systems) and EPIC IV (Scottish Government animal disease expertise).
Grants & Funding: Secured grants from South of Scotland Enterprise, Scottish Government, and the University of Edinburgh.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on poultry health, biosecurity, and renewable energy applications in rural agriculture.
