Dr Nick Robinson is a Senior Lecturer in Microbiology and Biochemistry at Lancaster University's Faculty of Health and Medicine, Department of Biomedical and Life Sciences. His research focuses on fundamental cellular processes using thermophilic archaeal models to study DNA repair, protein homeostasis, and chromosomal integrity. The Robinson Lab investigates the evolution of DNA replication-associated repair mechanisms and ubiquitin-like modification pathways, with implications for cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.
Research explores archaeal systems' experimental tractability to understand eukaryotic-like cellular pathways through biochemical and structural approaches. Current projects include studying proteasomal degradation pathways and DNA repair events in extremophile organisms.
Awards and grants include participation in the Asgard archaea research initiative (2020-2026) tracing protein homeostasis evolution. Laboratory activities emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration within Cancer Biology and Microbes/Pathogens research groups.
