Dr. Nick Rahier is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, KU Leuven, and affiliated with Ghent University’s CARAM. His work bridges African Studies, environmental anthropology, and urban studies, focusing on heat, climate resilience, and post-human futures. He leads projects like RESPIRA (Chronic Respiratory Disease consortium), eco-pesticide research in East Africa, and AI-based air quality initiatives in Nakuru. His PhD (2016–2021) examined heat’s social and sensory impacts in Nakuru, published as ethnographic monograph with UCL Press.
Research & Grants: Key projects include the Marie Skłodowska-Curie C-Urge network (climate urgency), FICAP-funded air quality monitoring, and pyrethrum industry studies. He advises FCDO on development policy through K4DD reports.
Labs/Teams: Core member of CARAM (Ghent) and leads RESPIRA consortium. Active in Nakuru-based citizen science initiatives.
