Nick Goulding

Professor Nick Goulding is a Professor of Pharmacology and Medical Education at Queen Mary University of London, affiliated with the William Harvey Research Institute within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Physiology and Biochemistry from the University of Southampton (1978) and a PhD in Immunopathology (1982). His career includes roles at the Bath Institute for Rheumatic Diseases and St Bartholomew’s Medical College, culminating in his current professorship since 2004. He serves as Head of Student Academic and Pastoral Support for the Medical School, overseeing 2000+ students. Additionally, he is an ordained priest in the Church of England, exploring the intersection of science and faith.

Research focuses on glucocorticoid biology, particularly their role in treating inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. Key projects include studying CD163-mediated iron clearance, non-genomic glucocorticoid actions, and annexin I deficiency. He co-directs the Core Cytometry Facility with the Institute of Cancer and leads ethical research projects on embryo-derived stem cells.
