Professor Mauro Perretti is a leading academic in Immunopharmacology at Queen Mary University of London’s William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI), part of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. He holds a Doctorate from the University of London (1996) and has held senior roles including Deputy Director (2006–2013), Co-Director (2013–2016), and Dean for Research (2015–2022) at WHRI.
His research focuses on resolving inflammation, particularly in arthritis and sepsis, with emphasis on neutrophil biology, extracellular vesicles, and pro-resolving mediators like resolvins and Annexin A1. Collaborations include SynAct Pharma and BioAegis Therapeutics to advance resolution pharmacology. He leads a team of post-doctoral fellows and PhD students investigating therapeutic strategies targeting inflammation resolution.
Prof Perretti’s work spans clinical and preclinical studies, including phase trials for pro-resolving drugs in COVID-19 and arthritis. He has secured funding from MRC, Barts Charity, and commercial partners. His teaching includes lectures on receptor theory and inflammation resolution for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
