Professor Nick Evans is a faculty member at the University of Southampton, holding a dual appointment in the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences. He currently serves as Associate Dean for Research in the Faculty of Medicine and leads the Centre for Human Development, Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine. His research focuses on regenerative medicine, particularly in bone repair and nanomedicine, combining expertise in bioengineering, materials science, and cell biology.
Evans completed his PhD at King's College London, followed by postdoctoral research at Imperial College London and Stanford University. He has secured over £2 million in grant funding and has over 4,500 citations. His work spans interdisciplinary collaborations, including projects with the University of Oxford and industry partners like Otivio AS.
His teaching includes leading a multidisciplinary biomedical engineering module recognized with the University's VLE award, and he actively engages in outreach programs, such as organizing the Smallpeice Trust residential workshop for school students. Evans chairs multiple national and international organizations, including the Biotechnology & Biological Sciences Research Council and the Tissue and Cell Engineering Society.
Key research themes include ultrasound-responsive agents for fracture healing, nanoparticle drug delivery for intracellular bacteria, and mechanobiology of stem cells. His lab facilities include micro/nano-fabrication, ultrasound equipment, and biosafety-level 2 facilities for bacterial work.
