Nichole Sheldrick is a Senior Research Fellow in Digital Archaeology at the University of Leicester, affiliated with the School of Archaeology and Ancient History. She leads research on the Endangered Archaeology in the Middle East and North Africa (EAMENA) project, focusing on North African archaeology and satellite-based heritage monitoring. Her role involves documenting heritage sites and developing methods for Automatic Change Detection using satellite imagery to support heritage management.
- Current Appointment: Assistant Director of the British Institute for Libyan and Northern African Studies (BILNAS) since 2024
- Former Roles: Research Associate at University of Oxford (2015–2020), Training Manager for British Council’s Cultural Protection Fund project in Tunisia/Libya
Education: DPhil in Archaeology (University of Oxford, 2016), MA (University of Alberta, 2008), BA (McMaster University, 2004). Prior experience includes commercial archaeology in Ontario.
Research emphasizes North African archaeology, technological innovation in heritage protection, and interdisciplinary collaboration across MENA regions. She promotes Libyan and Northern African studies through BILNAS, advancing historical, cultural, and environmental research.
