Nicholas Peters

Professor Nicholas Peters serves as Professor of Cardiac Electrophysiology at the National Heart & Lung Institute within the Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London. He concurrently holds the position of Head of Cardiac Electrophysiology and works as a Consultant Cardiologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust across Hammersmith and St Mary's Hospitals. Additional appointments include Adjunct Professor in Pharmacology at Columbia University and Clinical Advisor to Google Fit & Health (Fitbit @Google). His institutional affiliations encompass the British Heart Foundation Centre for Research Excellence, Centre for Cardiac Engineering, and ElectroCardioMaths Programme.

His research centers on cardiac electrophysiology with emphasis on myocardial conduction mechanisms from sub-cellular morphological determinants to human myocardium in health and disease. Specializing in implanted and on-body biosensor technologies, he develops tech-enabled care models to improve healthcare outcomes and reduce system burdens. Funded primarily by the British Heart Foundation, his work bridges clinical practice (ablation/device procedures) with engineering innovation, resulting in over 200 publications and patented technologies.

Professor Peters founded and directs the ElectroCardioMaths Programme and Imperial Centre for Cardiac Engineering, while leading the Connected Care Bureau - a joint Imperial-NHS venture employing allied health professionals to manage remotely monitored patients through standardized protocols. This initiative significantly reduces acute clinical team workloads across specialties. His leadership extends to co-founding the European Cardiac Arrhythmia Society and medical technology companies including Symphony Medical Inc, CardioPolymers Inc, and DASH Medical Ltd.

He maintains active roles on Scientific and Medical Advisory Boards for academic and commercial entities in Europe and the USA, and previously served on the Heart Rhythm Society (USA) Board of Trustees and Digital Health Committees. His governance experience includes DigitalHealth.London and multiple academic-commercial partnerships focused on healthcare implementation.
