Nicholas Leither is a Lecturer in the Department of English at Santa Clara University's College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a B.F.A. in Film/TV from New York University and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Saint Mary’s College. His academic focus centers on creative writing pedagogy, composition instruction, and literary analysis. He has taught at UC Berkeley, San Jose State, and Saint Mary’s College, where he directed the Great Books program’s Informal Curriculum.
Leither’s publications include the writing textbooks Slant: Writing Essays You Want to Read (2nd ed., 2016) and James Joyce’s Dubliners with a Guide to the Craft of Fiction. His fiction has appeared in Boulevard literary magazine and his novel-in-progress Indications explores themes of quest narratives and silent communication. He has received grants from the McKnight Foundation and Arrowhead Arts Council.
Leither’s professional activities extend to founding the UNDO IT Script Contest for young playwrights and co-creating the American Happiness Project, a collective inquiry into definitions of happiness. His furniture design work, American Rustic Furniture, showcases bentwood craftsmanship displayed at San Francisco galleries.
