Nicholas Larkins

Nicholas Larkins is a Senior Lecturer in the UWA Medical School's Paediatrics Department at the University of Western Australia and serves as a Paediatric Nephrologist at Perth Children’s Hospital. His academic background includes a PhD from the University of Sydney (2019), an MBBS (Honours) from UWA, a Clinical Fellowship in Paediatric Nephrology from the University of British Columbia, and an MMed in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Sydney.

His research focuses on pediatric nephrology, kidney transplantation, hypertension in children, and chronic kidney disease. Key areas include optimizing kidney allocation policies, improving outcomes for pediatric cancer survivors at risk of nephrotoxicity, and addressing healthcare access disparities for Indigenous Australian youth with hypertension.

Dr. Larkins has contributed to over 60 peer-reviewed articles and led the INCEPTION grant (2017–2021), a project refining immunological assessments to improve pediatric kidney transplant outcomes. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health equity and quality education.

He collaborates internationally on guidelines for childhood hypertension and kidney disease management, emphasizing clinical practice improvements and patient-centered care through initiatives like the NAVKIDS2 randomized controlled trial of patient navigator programs.
