Nicholas Ferns is a Research Fellow in the Department of History at Monash University, specializing in the history of international development, colonialism, and postcolonial state formations. His work focuses particularly on Australia's role in Pacific decolonization processes, UN institutions, and developmental policies from the mid-20th century to contemporary eras. Ferns leads the Australian Research Council (ARC)-funded project Australia and the World Bank: Financing Development and Decolonisation (2023–2026), exploring the intersection of financial mechanisms and decolonization.
