Anna Kent is an Associate Teaching Fellow (Lecturer) in History at Deakin University's School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Her research examines the intersections of international education policy, development scholarship programs, and decolonization processes, with particular focus on Australia's educational engagement with Pacific Island nations and Papua New Guinea from 1948 to present. She serves as Executive Coordinator for the Centre for Contemporary Histories.
Research examines:
- Historical evolution of Australian government scholarships to the Pacific
- Intersections of foreign policy and education in decolonization contexts
- International student experiences and support systems in Australia
- Administrative categorization of colonial and postcolonial students
Publication analysis reveals consistent attention to policy-practice gaps in educational aid, with methodological emphasis on archival research and institutional ethnography. Thematic clusters include: 1) Colonial legacies in scholarship programs, 2) Student identity formation through bureaucratic classification, and 3) Local impacts of international education schemes.
