Nicholas Cox serves as Professor of Clarinet and Senior Tutor at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) within the School of Strings, Woodwind, Brass and Percussion. With 25 years of teaching experience at RNCM, he maintains active performance commitments while overseeing clarinet syllabus development, student supervision, and professional orchestral collaborations. His international career spans principal clarinet positions with major UK orchestras and global masterclass engagements.

Cox's research focuses on clarinet repertoire development through editorial work on historical compositions and commissioning new works. His scholarly interests include performance practice analysis of Brahms and Schumann, historical development of solo clarinet works since 1900, and textual issues in Arnold Bax's sonata. As an active performer, he champions contemporary music through premieres of works by Adam Gorb, Emily Howard, and Benet Casablancas.
His scientific contributions include critical editions of Devienne and Lefèvre sonatas adopted by examination boards, with recordings receiving international acclaim including Classic FM's CD of the Week. Cox has served on international competition juries and contributed to publications like the Cambridge Companion to the Clarinet.

Current research includes editions of Iain Hamilton's late works and collaborations with composer Roger Purcell on pedagogical materials.
Based in Zagreb while maintaining RNCM commitments, Cox balances international performance, editorial projects, and his upcoming professorship at Szechenyi Istvan University in Hungary.
