Dr. Nicholas A. Giudice, III is a Professor of Spatial Computing at the University of Maine's School of Computing and Information Science. He serves as Chief Research Scientist at the Virtual Environments and Multimodal Interaction (VEMI) Lab, Chief Research Officer at UNAR Labs, and has held leadership roles since 2008. Giudice's research bridges spatial cognition and inclusive technology design, focusing on multisensory information access for both sighted and blind individuals.
Education: BA in Psychology/Philosophy from Providence College (RI), PhD in Cognitive and Brain Sciences from University of Minnesota, and postdoctoral work at UC Santa Barbara.
His research emphasizes practical applications of spatial cognition theories, leveraging auditory, tactile, and visual interfaces. The VEMI Lab, co-founded in 2009, is a student-driven facility he co-directed until 2019. The lab prioritizes universally designed technology and hands-on education, fostering collaboration across disciplines.
