Nichola Harmer is a Lecturer in Human Geography at the University of Plymouth, affiliated with the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. She serves as Admissions Tutor for Geography and teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including Sustainable Futures, Citizenship, Territory, War, and Environmental Politics and Governance. Her research interests focus on environmental governance, sustainability, and the socio-political dimensions of environmental policy, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to poverty eradication and environmental protection.
Dr. Harmer supervises PhD research on fracking's rural community impacts and environmental legislation in Gibraltar. She also mentors undergraduate and masters-level dissertations in Geography and Sustainable Environmental Management. Her teaching emphasizes methodological rigor and interdisciplinary approaches to contemporary global challenges.
Current roles include co-teaching on the MRes Human Geography program and serving as a personal tutor for Geography with International Relations students. Her work bridges academic research with practical applications in policy and community engagement.
