Dr Niamh Kehoe is a Lecturer in English at the University of Oxford's Faculty of English Language & Literature, affiliated with St Hilda's College. Her research focuses on medieval hagiographic narratives, particularly Old and Middle English saints' lives, exploring how humor, emotion, and pedagogy shaped medieval understandings of holiness. She examines intersections between romance and hagiography, manuscript culture, and the evolving moral frameworks of early medieval England.
Her current projects include a monograph on humor in vernacular hagiography and an investigation into the South English Legendary's manuscript dispersal. She has published in leading journals such as Review of English Studies and JEGP, and edited a special issue of English Studies on emotion and exemplarity. Previously, she contributed to the UKRI-funded 'The Human Remains' project, analyzing medieval saint translations.
Her work bridges textual analysis with material culture, addressing how audiences engaged with devotional texts across pre- and post-Conquest periods. Upcoming projects explore moral identity formation in early medieval genres, with a proposed monograph slated for 2026.
