Dr. Niamh Humphries is a Senior Lecturer and Head of Research at the Graduate School of Healthcare Management, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). She joined RCSI in 2022, with prior roles including Reader at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (2016-2021) and Postdoctoral Researcher at RCSI (2006-2016). She holds a PhD from University College Dublin, an MPhil from Trinity College Dublin, and a BSocSc from UCD.
Her research centers on:
- Health worker migration and retention
- Healthcare management and policy reform
- Qualitative analysis of working conditions
- Impacts of crises like COVID-19 on healthcare systems
Recent publications (2021-2025) emphasize workforce sustainability, with trends including pandemic-era workloads, migration policy critiques, and organizational barriers in healthcare. Articles frequently utilize ethnographic methods to capture frontline experiences.
