Dr. Niamh Coffey is a Senior Lecturer in Restorative and Primary Care Dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), where she serves as module co-ordinator for Clinical Dental Practice and Lead for Simulation. With over 11 years of combined clinical and academic experience, she is actively involved in dental education and research while maintaining clinical practice as a general dentist in County Cork.

Dr. Coffey holds a PhD from University College Cork (2023), where her research examined oral health in adults with cystic fibrosis, a BDS NUI from University College Cork (2013), and an MFDS from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (2015). She also completed a PG Dip TLHE and PG Cert TLHE from University College Cork in 2022 and 2020 respectively.
Her research focuses on the intersection of systemic and oral health, with particular emphasis on cystic fibrosis, periodontal disease, and dental education. Dr. Coffey's work spans multiple areas including oral health-related quality of life, adverse pregnancy outcomes, the oral health of psychiatric inpatients, and the relationship between periodontitis and sarcopenia. She has made significant contributions to understanding the oral manifestations of cystic fibrosis through numerous clinical studies and systematic reviews.
Dr. Coffey's publication record demonstrates a strong focus on cystic fibrosis and oral health, with particular attention to caries experience, periodontal disease, developmental enamel defects, and dental care considerations for this patient population. Her research also extends to dental education methodologies, nutritional supplements' impact on oral health, and simulation training techniques.

She serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Tissue Viability, the Scientific Committee of the Dental Health Foundation, and is a committee member of the Irish Division of the International Association for Dental Research.
